Rollits LLP is set to provide valuable insights for leaders in the charity and education sectors through a series of free breakfast briefings.
The sessions, taking place at Rollits’ Hull office on High Street, will cover a range of pressing issues, from managing serious incidents involving charities to the challenges posed by social media use in schools.
These breakfast briefings, running from 9:00 to 10:30 am for charities and 8:00 to 10:00 am for education, offer sector leaders an opportunity to stay informed about legal developments and best practice.
How charities can manage serious incidents and data protection
The charity briefings will be spearheaded by Gerry Morrison, partner and head of charities at Rollits, alongside senior solicitor Harriet Wheeldon.
Their first session, on Wednesday 16 October, will cover the management and prevention of serious incidents within charities. This topic is particularly timely given the rising scrutiny on governance and accountability within the charity sector. Morrison and Wheeldon will offer practical advice on how charities should respond when incidents occur and provide strategies to prevent such events.
The second briefing, on Wednesday 12 February 2025, will focus on trustees’ legal duties regarding data protection – a critical issue as charities increasingly handle large volumes of sensitive information.
The final session, on Wednesday 30 April, will explore practical steps charities can take to mitigate risks involving staff and volunteers.
Tackling social media and governance in education
A series of education briefings will start with a session on Thursday 7 November that addresses one of the most urgent challenges facing schools and colleges today: the growing influence of social media and smart phone use. Led by Rollits’ education law experts James Peel and Ed Heppel, alongside Sarah Young, founder of Young Plus Ltd, the session will explore the legal and reputational risks that social media poses to educational institutions and their communities.
The next session on Thursday, 30 January 2025 will cover effective governance, with a focus on supporting trustees and board members in fulfilling their roles.
The series will conclude with a session on Thursday 3 April, dedicated to promoting ‘A Positive Approach to Menopause’ – a topic gaining traction as workplaces, including schools, seek to create more inclusive environments for staff.
