Ison Harrison launches free legal aid services across Yorkshire

Leeds-based law firm Ison Harrison is expanding its legal aid services to provide vital support to vulnerable individuals across Yorkshire, particularly those affected by domestic abuse, care proceedings, and child arrangement orders.

This follows the firm’s recent growth, including the opening of its 20th office in Selby.

Free legal clinics in Yorkshire communities

Starting in September, Ison Harrison is offering free legal clinics and workshops across several Yorkshire locations, including Leeds, York, Doncaster, Wakefield, Barnsley, Castleford, and Huddersfield. These clinics aim to ensure that local communities have access to expert legal advice, especially for complex family law issues.

The firm has partnered with various charities and organisations, including Wren Bakery, a Leeds-based social enterprise that supports disadvantaged women. Free legal advice sessions are being held at Wren Bakery’s café and training base in Mabgate, where women can receive guidance in a relaxed setting.

Clare Sanderson, co-founder of Wren Bakery, praised the collaboration, commenting, “We are really excited to be working with Ison Harrison to host free legal advice sessions in our cafe and training base in Mabgate. We have already seen the benefit that Parveen’s advice sessions have had.”

Strengthening legal aid services for domestic abuse survivors

To support the initiative, Ison Harrison has added three experienced family care solicitors to its team: Damian McDermott in the York office; Prerna Kapoor, specialising in family law; and Kauser Arshid, based in Wakefield.

Tim Burt, partner in the firm’s family legal aid team, is managing the project.

“We now have 17 legal aid family lawyers across Yorkshire. This means we are able to provide free legal representation to people who need it; through care proceedings, social services involvement, child arrangements cases, or domestic abuse work,” he said. “Ison Harrison’s commitment to legal aid family work is stronger than ever, and this growth is a great asset for the firm, and for the communities and families we seek to help.”

Ison Harrison will be hosting a free workshop at Wren Bakery in September for people who are suffering from domestic abuse or who need help with care proceedings or child arrangement orders. Contact Ison Harrison for further details and to book a place at the workshop.
