Raworths strengthens commercial property team with two partner promotions

Harrogate-based law firm Raworths is ushering in a new era with the promotion of Heather Roberts and John Carter to partner roles in its commercial property team.

The promotions cap a year of expansion and industry recognition for Raworths, which employs over 70 staff and provides integrated commercial and private client services, combining expertise in areas such as employment, trusts, and corporate law.

Heather Roberts, who joined Raworths as legal director in 2023, has been promoted to partner and head of commercial property. With over 25 years of experience, Heather has built a reputation for advising investors, developers, landlords, tenants, and banks on a wide range of matters, including portfolio purchases and leases. Recognised in The Legal 500, she has recently supported high-profile clients such as Harvey Jones Home Limited and played a pivotal role in securing new premises for Broomfield South SILC School, a specialist SEN provider.

John Carter, who has been with Raworths since 2013, has also been promoted to partner in recognition of his instrumental role in the team’s growth over the last decade. John specialises in commercial leases, landlord and tenant matters, and large-scale development deals, with clients such as trustees of the Patrizia Hanover Property Unit Trust, owners of the 385-acre Thorp Arch Estate. He is also recognised as an Associate to Watch in Chambers UK 2025.

The promotions set the stage for further growth in 2025. Key opportunities include renewable energy projects and large-scale land development, supported by government efforts to unlock privately owned land.

Matthew Hill, head of commercial client services, praised the pair’s contributions: “Heather and John’s promotions are well-deserved and reflect their significant impact on our firm’s reputation as a leader in commercial property. This marks an exciting new chapter for the team as we grow our client base and geographic reach.”
