Parklane Plowden welcomes Paul Clarke to drive growth strategy

Paul Clarke joins Parklane Plowden Chambers as senior practice director, bringing decades of clerking expertise.

Parklane Plowden Chambers, with offices in Leeds and Newcastle, has announced the appointment of Paul Clarke as senior practice director for its civil and employment teams.

Paul brings nearly 30 years of clerking experience from Kings Chambers, where he managed key practice areas including employment, personal injury, clinical negligence, sports law, and court of protection.

At Parklane Plowden, he will oversee the 62-strong civil and employment teams, working closely with barristers Stuart Jamieson, Dominic Bayne, and Andrew Sugarman to implement strategies for business growth and maintain high client service standards.

“I am delighted to be taking on this new role and joining such an established and prestigious set of chambers,” commented Paul. “We have an exceptional and well recognised team of barristers working closely with highly regarded and experienced support staff.  This is a potent combination as we look to continue providing high level advice, advocacy and client care.”

Formed in 2007 through the merger of Leeds-based Parklane Chambers and Newcastle-based Plowden Chambers, Parklane Plowden now has 118 members and continues to expand its influence across the North Eastern Circuit.

“The North Eastern circuit has a thriving legal market, and I am excited to play my part in PLP’s ongoing vision for growth,” added Paul.

James Murphy, head of chambers, said, “Paul has extensive experience as a leading clerk, and we are pleased he is joining us as a senior practice director.

“At Parklane Plowden, our civil and employment barristers have an established leading reputation, and these practice areas represents a core growth opportunity for our set across the North Eastern Circuit.

“Having Paul on board will be instrumental in achieving this. We look forward to leveraging his leadership and management expertise to ensure high quality services are maintained for our clients as we go from strength to strength.”

Parklane Plowden Chambers has solidified its reputation as a leading barristers’ set, earning Band 1 rankings from Chambers & Partners 2024 across chancery, clinical negligence, employment, and personal injury. The set was also highly ranked in family and children law, inquests, and matrimonial finance. The Legal 500 2024 recognised the chambers as a Tier 1 set in five practice areas, with 79 barristers individually recommended across 11 areas.
