Switalskis lawyer takes up Law Society regional council role

Switalskis director and solicitor Amy Clowrey has been appointed as the Law Society’s council member for Yorkshire and Humberside.

With her appointment, Clowrey will give the region a voice at a national level, ensuring that it remains on the map as a growing legal hub. She will also take an active role in ensuring that the profession remains diverse, accessible, and that talent continues to be harnessed and developed.

Clowrey has worked at Switalskis for seven years. She represents victims of child abuse, with a specialism in child sexual exploitation and grooming.

Born in Rotherham, Clowrey chose to work in child abuse compensation law to support victims of the Rotherham grooming scandal, which had unfolded in her hometown. She now works as part of a team of lawyers dealing with the high-profile grooming scandals in the region as well as child abuse cases nationally.

Clowrey has been involved with the Law Society for more than 10 years. Her roles have included chair of the Junior Lawyers Division, a committee member for the Council Membership Committee, and she currently sits on the Civil Justice Committee.

Locally, Clowrey has also held committee roles in Leeds, Huddersfield and presently as the education representative for the Yorkshire Union of Lawyers.

Commenting on her appointment, Clowrey (pictured) said: “I see my council member position as an opportunity to promote two-way engagement between the Law Society and its members in Yorkshire. I will take a proactive approach to address any issues that the Yorkshire legal sector faces and will represent it to the absolute best of my abilities during my term.

“I’m grateful that the region has put its faith in me to represent them. I’ve enjoyed the challenges and opportunities that working with the Law Society has presented so far and can’t wait to get stuck into this next chapter.”
