Squire Patton Boggs names new managing partner in Leeds

Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Prew Lumley as managing partner of its Leeds office.

She succeeds John Alderton, who has led the office for nearly 10 years, and who will continue to lead the Leeds restructuring and insolvency practice.

Lumley trained and qualified with Squire Patton Boggs and was made a partner in 2002. She has more than 25 years of experience as a commercial property lawyer, advising on complex development and strategic land work and property portfolio management.

She has led the UK retail real estate team for more than 10 years, acting for well-known high street retailers and restaurants.

Lumley and fellow real estate lawyer Karen French were the first partners at the firm to job share, one of the first arrangements of its kind within the legal sector, and a role they managed successfully for more than 13 years.

Outside the firm, Lumley was the first chair of the LeedsBID, an elected post she held for over five years, and she was also non-executive director of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

She was recently recognised in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 2023, a list celebrating standout legal professionals seen to be doing the most important work in the country.

Lumley (pictured, right) commented: “I am excited to have the opportunity to lead the office I joined as a trainee so long ago.

“The strength of this office is founded on our long history in the city and a strong entrepreneurial culture which, together with our extensive global network of offices, means we are uniquely placed to serve clients wherever they have interests.”

Alderton (pictured, left) added: “It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to lead the office for the last decade. Prew has played an important role in our success over many years, and she will do a fantastic job as office managing partner.”

European managing partner Jonathan Jones said: “Prew’s dynamism and drive has seen her lead the charge on many fronts at the firm.”

“She is rightly recognised as a trailblazer, and we are delighted that she has agreed to take up this important leadership role.”

The Leeds office was founded in Yorkshire more than 130 years ago, and now has 25 partners and over 250 staff.
