Strengthening Leigh Day’s National Travel Team Expansion
Leading law firm Leigh Day is pleased to announce the appointment of experienced travel and cross-border litigation specialist Nathaniel Martindale as a Senior Associate Solicitor within its dedicated travel team. Based in the firm’s Leeds office, Nathaniel’s arrival marks a significant step in the firm’s national expansion.
Nathaniel brings extensive experience in high-profile travel and cross-border litigation cases. Notable successes include securing six-figure compensation for the family of a young child who tragically drowned on a family holiday in Egypt, as well as representing 30 family members following a fatal road traffic collision in Greece.
Specialising in jurisdictional disputes and complex catastrophic injury cases, Nathaniel’s expertise spans multiple areas, including the Montreal Convention, Athens Convention, employers’ liability, road traffic collisions, public liability, skiing accidents, assault, and sexual assault claims. He also represents foreign nationals injured in the UK.
A dedicated advocate for legal education and professional development, Nathaniel serves as a Committee Member of the Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL) New Lawyers’ Group. In April, he will host an event in Poland focused on the legal education of junior lawyers. His work with PEOPIL connects him with a global network of personal injury experts, strengthening his ability to handle cross-border cases effectively.
Nathaniel joins Leigh Day from Irwin Mitchell and is the first member of the firm’s travel team to be based outside of Manchester. His appointment follows the team’s recent success in the High Court in Liverpool, where a judge ruled that Liverpool fans impacted by the Stade de France Champions League final chaos in 2022 could have their personal injury claims heard in the UK.
Commenting on his new role, Nathaniel Martindale said, “It is great to join such a formidable team. I have been aware of Leigh Day’s stellar reputation for over a decade – and have always admired the way they tenaciously fight for their clients and for justice. “Becoming a part of the travel team is incredibly exciting and I very much look forward to helping the team continue to go from strength to strength.”
Clare Campbell, Head of the Travel Team at Leigh Day, welcomed Nathaniel, stating, “I am delighted to welcome Nathaniel to the travel team at Leigh Day. Nathaniel is a very experienced and highly regarded travel lawyer. His knowledge and exceptional client case skills will be an asset to the travel team. I am looking forward to working together to assist clients who have sustained life changing injuries abroad”
In addition to Nathaniel’s appointment, Leigh Day is pleased to announce that Senior Associate Solicitor Matthew Westlake, from the firm’s Clinical Negligence department, has been promoted to Partner in the Leeds office. This further highlights the firm’s commitment to expanding its presence and expertise in the region.
