New appointments at Bevan Brittan underscore the firm’s long-term pledge to people, planet and purpose
Leading UK commercial law firm Bevan Brittan has further reinforced its commitment to sustainability, diversity, and social impact with the formation of a dedicated Responsible Business team, supported by two senior appointments.
Tamsin Danby has joined as head of responsible business, while Connie Heathfield takes on the newly created role of environmental sustainability manager. The team is led by Judith Hopper, partner and board lead for responsible business, and will work across the firm’s four priority strands: Community Engagement, Environmental Sustainability, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, and Wellbeing.
Tamsin, who is based in the firm’s Leeds office, brings more than 15 years’ experience in driving sustainable and ethical business practices. A Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, her previous roles include senior ESG and diversity positions at Freshfields and as director of the UN Global Compact Network UK. She is also chair of the ProManchester Social Mobility Committee.
Connie, based in Bristol, joins from leading sustainability consultancy JRP Solutions. Her background spans both public and private sectors, with a focus on carbon accounting, net zero strategy and sustainable supply chain management. She will be responsible for managing the delivery of Bevan Brittan’s carbon reduction plan, as the firm progresses towards its target of net zero by 2040.
The appointments build on a series of milestones already achieved by the firm. All four Bevan Brittan offices are now powered entirely by renewable energy, and for the second consecutive year, the firm has been recognised in the Legal 500 Green Guide—highlighting its position as an environmental leader within the legal sector.
Commenting on the appointments, Judith Hopper said, “I am delighted to welcome Tamsin and Connie to Bevan Brittan. Their experience and energy reflect the importance we place on being a business that acts responsibly—towards our people, our clients and our communities. We are proud of what we’ve already achieved, from our carbon reduction efforts and charitable giving, to our work supporting social mobility. With a dedicated team now in place, we are focused on making an even greater impact.”
Tamsin Danby added, “Bevan Brittan has built a strong reputation as a responsible and forward-thinking firm with a fantastic culture. My role is to help preserve and evolve that as the business continues to grow. We are in a moment where diversity, inclusion and sustainability are essential business priorities, not just nice-to-haves. I’m excited to help drive these forward across the firm and beyond.”
Connie Heathfield said, “Bevan Brittan is already known for its commitment to sustainability, and I’m thrilled to be joining at such an important stage in that journey. True, impactful sustainability must be embedded in an organisation’s culture through innovation and collaboration—and that’s already clearly happening here. I look forward to helping build on this strong foundation.”
Bevan Brittan’s responsible business approach continues to drive impact across its four office locations. As part of its community commitment, the firm makes annual donations to local charities, reaching a record-breaking £100,000 over the past two years.
The firm is also Gold Standard certified for its support of international offset schemes, which include providing fuel-efficient cookstoves to families in Kenya, repairing boreholes in Uganda to ensure safe drinking water, and supporting wind power generation in India.
Additional initiatives include clothing drives, food waste reduction, litter-picking, and participation in rewilding and tree-planting schemes during its annual Green Week.
