Minster Law opens applications for 2025 solicitor apprenticeship programme

Minster Law launches its solicitor apprenticeship, which closes on 15 March 2025.

Wakefield-based Minster Law has announced the launch of its 2025 solicitor apprenticeship programme, providing an alternative route into the legal profession for aspiring solicitors.

The personal injury firm, which specialises in serious and catastrophic injury claims, is offering four apprenticeship positions in this year’s intake.

Jo Peacock, director of legal services and HR operations at Minster Law, emphasised the firm’s commitment to broadening access to legal careers, particularly for individuals who may not wish to pursue the traditional university route due to financial constraints:

“Some of our brightest stars have come through the programme, gaining their qualifications through a mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge,” she said. “We also want to hear from local colleges, so we can inspire the next generation of solicitors who now have more choice in terms of how they qualify.”

Level 7 apprenticeships on the chopping block

Applicants who successfully complete the apprenticeship will achieve a solicitor level 7 apprenticeship qualification – an LLB (Hons) in law and legal practice.

The firm’s initiative comes at a time of uncertainty over government funding for level 7 apprenticeships through the apprenticeship levy. Minster Law has voiced strong opposition to potential cuts, arguing that such changes would reintroduce “glass ceilings” for candidates from less privileged backgrounds or those for whom the university route is not suitable.

As part of the apprenticeship, apprentices will need to pass both solicitors qualifying examinations (SQE) 1 and 2. Jo said, “We give apprentices hands-on skills that are directly applicable to the law they wish to practice in, allowing them to understand the nuances and real-world challenges of the legal profession.”

The programme offers both three-year and six-year apprenticeship pathways, with applications for the 2025 cohort opening on 14 February and closing on 15 March. The assessment centre process will take place between 28 April and 2 May.

Applicants can apply via the Minster Law website.
