A highly experienced legal director has joined Sheffield and Chesterfield legal firm BRM – strengthening their growing contentious probate team.
Rob Johnson has been appointed as director in their contentious probate team, which handles disputes over wills, trusts and inheritance, bringing more than 20 years of experience to the role.
He joins BRM after previously working at Bell & Buxton Solicitors and Malcolm C Foy & Co, where he started his career as a trainee solicitor in 2004.
Rob qualified in 2006 and eventually rose to director and head of dispute resolution, where he gained wide ranging experience within contentious probate.
He said: “I have previously focused on will disputes and issues in relation to the administration of estates but I have dealt with and have experience in all aspects of contentious probate and I am looking forward to bringing that depth of experience to the team at BRM.”
BRM’s contentious probate department has been growing in recent years, alongside the rest of the firm.
In August 2023, Lewis Hastie was appointed as head of its Sheffield-based probate dispute team and Abbie Culf joined as a trainee solicitor in January 2026.
Rob added: “I chose to join BRM for a chance to work in an excellent team with Lewis Hastie and to join a progressive commercial firm that is very successful in Sheffield.
“I’m very much looking forward to making a significant impact on BRM’s cases and achieving positive results for our clients.”
Lewis Hastie, director and head of contentious probate, said: “I am delighted that Rob has chosen to join BRM. He brings with him a huge amount of experience and expertise and will be a major asset to our growing contentious trusts and probate team.”
Rob Cooke, executive director and head of dispute resolution at BRM, added: “Our contentious probate team continues to expand and Rob’s arrival is a significant step in that growth.
“His experience and strong track record will be invaluable as we continue expanding our capabilities and supporting clients facing some of the most challenging situations.”
