Hudgell Solicitors and the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) have recently joined forces. They aim to advocate for change and amplify the voices of individuals living with spinal cord injuries in the UK. 2,500 people sustain spinal cord injuries every year. This impacts various aspects of their lives. Including continence management, work reintegration, and quality of life. These individuals often encounter challenges accessing appropriate health and support services. They can face barriers related to caregivers, transportation, livelihoods, and housing. Furthermore, there is a notable lack of public awareness surrounding this life-altering condition.
SIA is a recognised expert guiding voice for life after spinal cord injury.
They have developed a seven-year strategy with three primary goals. These goals include establishing a health and care system that supports individuals with spinal cord injuries, doubling the number of members accessing SIA’s services, and garnering support from the UK government and the public through national and localised campaigns to raise awareness.
Hudgell Solicitors is a Hull-based law firm.
Known for their involvement in high-profile cases addressing social injustices, they have established a reputation in the legal field. They have become the official campaign partner for SIA. The partnership aims to engage the UK public through awareness campaigns and mobilise the spinal cord injured community to address their most significant obstacles.
SIA vice president Martin Hibbert, a survivor of the Manchester Arena bombing, explained; “I wanted to give something back and that’s where my journey with Spinal Injuries Association began. Wherever you live in the country, you should get that help and support. I believe we can change the world and the UK and it’s great to be able to do that with Hudgells.”
Hudgell Solicitors’ executive chairman, Neil Hudgell, expressed pride in collaborating with SIA. He states; “Hudgell Solicitors has always had a reputation in causes and campaigns that can make a difference. This whole issue is about awareness. If you listen to Martin, he’s a very good advocate for himself but, there are other people, the silent ones, who possibly get left behind. We’re here to help SIA to fill those substantial voids of support for everyone with a spinal cord injury.”
Mark Ridler, director of programmes at SIA, stated; “Having Hudgell Solicitors alongside us in our campaign for change is a real boost for us. They are renowned for being fiercely committed to the causes they back and I am confident that their support will help us to make systemic change.”
