Could you please introduce RG Law for our readers?

RG Law is a passionate and customer-centred law firm with offices in York and Sidcup, specialising in conveyancing, commercial property and wills and probate law.

Our core objective is ‘to deliver a service that a customer wants, in a way that they want’. We want to set a new benchmark for customer service. To do that, we profile all our customers to gain a better understanding of what great service looks like to them and then we work hard to deliver it.

In short, we provide excellent legal advice in a way that counts.

You have a strong reputation for nurturing talent. Can you tell us more about that?

Supporting emerging talent is essential to us, both within our firm and in the broader legal community and we do it in lots of different ways.

We have an in-house Academy which provides structured training for staff at all levels, from admin roles to senior conveyancers, focusing on both legal knowledge and real-world scenarios. It’s an innovative, structured and accessible programme, ensuring every individual can realise their full potential.

And it works – we’ve had many people start with us from graduate or administrative level and progress to leadership positions within the firm. For example, Laura Baldwin, who started as an administrative assistant, is now our conveyancing manager and leads a large team. Holly Meek, who joined as an assistant, is now the firm’s technical in-house auditor. Their growth reflects our academy’s success in nurturing talent and offering career progression. We also support new talent in the wider legal profession. We sponsor the Rising Star of the Year Award at the Yorkshire Legal Awards, which is another way for us to recognise and celebrate promising individuals.

You’re one of the few law firms in York offering business apprenticeships in collaboration with York College.

Yes! Breaking into the legal industry is challenging, so we expanded the RG Academy to include partnerships with schools and colleges, like York College. We also participate in career expos, demystifying legal careers and promoting alternative entry paths such as apprenticeships.

By partnering with local institutions like York and Bromley Colleges, RG Law has successfully recruited apprentices via the Business Apprenticeship scheme. Many apprentices stay on to build careers with us, which strengthens our team and gives back to the community by creating accessible pathways into the legal profession.

RG Law has built a reputation for delivering excellent customer service. How do you ensure this remains a core focus?

Our focus on a daily basis has always been our customers. Our services are often required at pivotal points in life and we try to prevent clients feeling overwhelmed through these important life stages.

We want to provide effective legal advice in the way that the customer needs and to stay away from overcomplicated jargon. The law doesn’t need to be complicated!

“We want to provide effective legal advice in the way that the customer needs and to stay away from overcomplicated jargon. The law doesn’t need to be complicated!”

The legal industry can often feel intimidating or impersonal, so I imagine the ‘RG Law approach’ works well.

Yes – we regularly communicate with clients and provide a proactive service to answer any questions at every stage of the transaction. We also provide webinars to explain more complex areas of the law, like conveyancing.

We have an RG app which lets clients track every step of their journey. Simple information, delivered regularly, with advice that’s accessible and clear, is the key to making clients feel supported, not intimidated.

As a Yorkshire-based firm, you seem very invested in the local community. Can you tell me more about that?

Yorkshire has a collaborative business community and we’re proud to work with local estate agents, financial advisors and charities like Cancer Research and St Leonard’s Hospice. Our health and wellbeing team recently raised funds in the Accumulator Challenge, which was an amazing initiative for a worthy cause.

Finally, what’s next for RG Law? Are there any new initiatives or projects on the horizon that you’re excited about?

We’re continuing with the growth and adaptation of our in-house Academy and offering more paths to qualification for all our trainees. We are also excited to be developing and growing a new commercial property department and building our portfolio of work in the public sector.

We look forward to bringing in new initiatives that will help us to continue improving our customer experience in order to deliver exceptional service to our customers.
