We also celebrated our biggest ever sold-out Yorkshire Legal Awards, marking the final celebration before its move to First Direct Arena in 2024 for its 25th anniversary.

1. Celebrating the best of Yorkshire’s legal talent: winners of the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2023 revealed!

First off the mark! Our most popular post was the announcement of the winners of the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2023. As the key event in the Yorkshire Legal calendar, its not surprising that our uplifting community flocked to celebrate their peers and see themselves on the winner’s list.

 

2. Simpson Millar strengthens childcare proceedings team with key appointments

Simpson Millar was thrilled to welcome two exceptional additions to their childcare proceedings team: experienced solicitor Sarah Warburton and the talented Josie Gabriel. Celebrating community and growth, they were also proud to announce well-deserved promotions within their team, including Lidia Foster as senior associate and Sean Harrison as associate. Additionally, Saskia Coles and Tamara Baker were made senior paralegals, while Lydia Neill rejoined the firm as a solicitor. Ameeta Bhuhi also successfully qualified in October 2023!

 

3. Milners celebrates growth with new talent

Milners celebrated substantial growth and a vibrant infusion of talent in November 2023. Karl Pike, a seasoned solicitor with 25 years of expertise in finance, joined the family team in Harrogate. Anthony Bailey expanded the residential conveyancing team, adding a UK-wide perspective from Harrogate. In Leeds, Abigail Watson and Lily Scott bolstered the commercial litigation team, while Tara Pitt joined the employment department. Simon Bass, the managing partner, expressed elation at the diverse additions, highlighting a commitment to enriching Milner’s client-focused services.

 

4. Book by Leeds employment law experts gains momentum

Chelsea Brooke-Ward, head of Park Square Barristers’ employment team, and Jodie Hill, founder of Thrive Law, unveiled their collaboration, ‘A Practical Guide to Valuing Employment Discrimination Claims.’ in October 2023. The book’s official launch was on 3 October at Leeds Beckett University, sponsored by Leeds Law School, which drew nearly 100 attendees. The book simplifies over 160 cases, spanning age discrimination to racial harassment. Applauded by legal experts, including Nick Denys and Ashfin Bemani, it promises to empower individuals navigating the intricacies of employment discrimination claims.

 

5. GLD lawyer Kavita Roy: “no lawyer is an island”

Kavita Roy, a senior lawyer at the Government Legal Department, shone as a finalist for In-House Lawyer of the Year at the 2023 Yorkshire Legal Awards. Her diverse role in the specialised Commercial Law Group, advising the Department of Health and Social Care, reflects a commitment to cutting-edge projects. Recognised for both high-quality legal advice and social values, Kavita’s nomination symbolised the value of teamwork and impactful contributions. The Yorkshire Legal Awards ceremony, a glamorous affair, showcased her excitement and pride in representing government lawyers.
