Wake Smith raises £1,772 at Christmas lunch for Cavendish Cancer Care, honouring late colleague’s memory.
Sheffield-based law firm Wake Smith Solicitors has achieved a record-breaking fundraising total at its annual Christmas lunch, raising £1,772 for local charity Cavendish Cancer Care. The event, held at Sheffield City Hall, saw over 130 guests gather for a festive meal and a raffle in support of the firm’s chosen cause.
The fundraiser was particularly poignant for Wake Smith, as it honoured the memory of the firm’s former director of HR, Kelly Pashley-Handford, who passed away last year. Cavendish Cancer Care provides invaluable support to those affected by cancer, a mission close to the hearts of the firm’s employees.
Neil Salter, chairman and director at Wake Smith, expressed his gratitude: “This was my first Christmas lunch as chairman, and it was wonderful to see so many guests join us to celebrate the successes of 2024. The generosity shown at the event was incredible, helping us raise our biggest total ever for this cause. This contribution will play a significant role in our annual fundraising for Cavendish Cancer Care in Kelly’s memory.”
Salter also reflected on the event’s significance: “Friendship and trust are central to our culture at Wake Smith, especially during the festive season. These values not only strengthen our team but also nurture the long-term relationships we cherish with our clients and partners.”
Kirsty White, Head of Fundraising at Cavendish Cancer Care, praised the firm’s efforts: “What a fantastic total to raise at a single event. Contributions like this from our corporate partners, such as Wake Smith Solicitors, make a tremendous difference in supporting the work we do.”
The Christmas lunch was part of a year-long series of fundraising efforts by Wake Smith, which have included running challenges, a Heroes of Sheffield abseil, a corporate curling competition, the Sheffield 10k, and a variety of volunteering events.
