Truth Legal secures victory for whistleblower in case against DPD Group

Truth Legal secures a substantial victory for whistleblower Surinder Ram

In a win for Truth Legal, the Employment Tribunal has ruled in favour of their client, Mr. Surinder Ram, who faced unfair treatment from DPD Group after exposing widespread cocaine use at one of the company’s depots.

The Tribunal’s decision highlighted the failure of DPD’s senior management to protect Mr. Ram, who raised concerns about the serious health and safety risks posed by drug use in the workplace.

Truth Legal represented Mr. Ram, who was subjected to two specific detriments following his protected disclosure. The Tribunal found that shortly after Mr. Ram reported the issue, he was aggressively confronted by a senior manager, who dismissed his concerns and displayed evasive behaviour during the hearing. Instead of receiving the support that should have been afforded to him, Mr. Ram was criticised by management for speaking out.

The retaliation intensified when Mr. Ram began receiving death threats from a colleague. Despite reporting these threats to both the police and a senior manager, his concerns were brushed aside. The Tribunal ruled that this dismissive attitude constituted a further act of detriment, as it was driven by dissatisfaction that Mr. Ram had named certain senior managers in his initial disclosure.

The Tribunal awarded Mr. Ram a five-figure sum in damages, recognising the adverse treatment he endured. He was represented by Truth Legal’s Navya Shekhar and Miroslaw Ksiezarek, with barrister Sapandeep Singh Maini-Thompson from No5 Barristers Chambers.
