Solicitor and Court of Protection deputy, Alex Guy, has joined Switalskis Solicitors as a director to head up the firms’ specialist Financial Court of Protection team in its newly created Sheffield office.
Formerly a partner at HLW Keeble Hawson, Guy is one of only four specialist Deputies in Yorkshire appointed to the Court of Protection Deputy Panel to manage the property and financial affairs of someone who lacks mental capacity.
The establishment of a new Financial Court of Protection team dovetails with the work already undertaken by Samantha Spain in Switalskis’ Court of Protection department based in Huddersfield. The move secures the firms’ position nationally as one of only a small number capable of providing high quality and experienced Court of Protection services to vulnerable clients.
“Joining Switalskis strengthens the firms’ existing legal expertise enabling disabled claimants access to specialist advice throughout the lifecycle of their case and beyond,” said Guy.
“Being able to provide post-settlement support to clients means they are not abandoned at the conclusion of their case, but cared for both financially and socially in the long term.”
This latest appointment follows the firm’s move into South Yorkshire last month, which saw a significant expansion of its clinical negligence team, as well as the formation of a brain and serious injury team – a new practice area for the firm.
John Durkan, managing director at Switalskis Solicitors said: “I am delighted Alex has chosen to join Switalskis, particularly in light of his status as a deputy. This has now also completed the firm strategy of firmly linking together our clinical negligence, social welfare COP department and financial COP department, such that we are now one of the few firms in the country that can boast such an impressive service provision, with such a high quality team.”
