Hargreaves (UK) Services Limited has recently completed strategic acquisitions in the aggregates sector, with legal guidance provided by Andrew Jackson Solicitors LLP. The UK-based law firm supported Hargreaves in acquiring two aggregate businesses, marking significant expansions within the industry. The financial details of these transactions remain undisclosed.
Andrew Jackson Solicitors LLP, operating from York, Hull, Scarborough, and Grimsby, offers comprehensive legal services to businesses and individuals globally. The firm has earned recognition as a top-ranked regional firm in industry guides such as the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.
McLeod Construction Materials
One of the acquisitions involved McLeod Construction Materials Ltd (MCM), known for producing secondary aggregates essential in the construction sector. Situated at Newlandside Quarry in Co Durham, MCM has revived the site, which has the capacity to recycle about 4 million tonnes of waste materials. These materials are converted into secondary aggregates, boasting a lower carbon footprint compared to newly quarried alternatives. Hargreaves intends to ramp up production at the site in the coming months.
Greenford Haulage & Aggregates
Another noteworthy acquisition is Greenford Haulage & Aggregates (“Greenford”), a Darlington-based aggregate merchant and bagging operation. This move prompted Hargreaves to introduce specialised decorative aggregates into its Groveport operations. Additionally, the acquisition facilitated the extension of the Greenford business into Lincolnshire through a supplementary bagging operation at the Groveport site.
Simon Greenwood, an existing owner of Greenford, has assumed the role of aggregates director within the Hargreaves team. Greenwood and his team are expected to play a pivotal role in driving growth within the aggregates sector.
Steve Barker, Managing Director of Hargreaves (UK) Services Limited, commented, “These developments are in line with our strategy to enhance regional aggregates and minerals operations, complementing the range of services offered by the Hargreaves group of companies. The guidance and support from the Andrew Jackson team have been invaluable.”
Legal counsel for Hargreaves was provided by Andrew Jackson Solicitors LLP. Led by corporate partner Philip Ashworth, the team included specialists in corporate, property, employment, tax, and commercial law. Ashworth expressed confidence in Hargreaves’ potential, stating, “It has been a privilege to guide Steve and his proficient team through these acquisitions. The future holds exciting prospects for the business.”
