Huddersfield-based Eaton Smith has bolstered its Commercial Property Team. The firm hopes the strategic move will provide enhanced services to clients locally and nationally.
The Commercial Property Team, headed by partner James Burgess, works with clients from across the region and the UK from both the public and private sectors on a variety of commercial projects and portfolios. The expansion signifies the firm’s commitment to catering to a broader spectrum of clients while setting ambitious growth goals for the upcoming years.
James completed his training at a well-known national law firm based in the North East of England, before moving on to work for a niche commercial practice in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he undertook all aspects of commercial property work.
James assumed leadership of the Commercial Property Team in May 2021. He has extensive knowledge of all aspects of commercial property, including landlord and tenant negotiations, acquisition and disposal, portfolio and estate management, commercial development, secured lending and property and development financing.
Sector-specific advice
Adding depth to the team is Senior Solicitor Jamie Humpheson, who joined Eaton Smith in October 2021 from a regional law firm. Jamie is a skilled commercial property lawyer, who advises a wide range of clients in a variety of fields. He provides an additional layer of expertise in the charity sector and frequently provides advice upon the property aspects of company sales and acquisitions. Jamie has worked on a number of notable, high-value projects, most recently a £4,000,000 value lease for an industry-leading client.
Associate Solicitor Ian Holdsworth, a seasoned professional with over 40 years of qualification, joined Eaton Smith in January 2022. Holding a rich and diverse career history – including running his law firm and estate agency, and partnerships with reputable solicitors in Wakefield and Barnsley – Holdsworth brings a wealth of experience. Due to his love of the outdoors, Ian particularly enjoys dealing with agricultural land, including woodland, which he has purchased and sold for clients throughout England and Wales and in respect of which he is acknowledged as an expert.
Integral support from accomplished legal assistants
Complementing the legal expertise are Anne Wilson and Justine Boyes, two esteemed Legal Assistants. Boyes, a long-serving member of Eaton Smith’s Commercial Property Team, contributes over a decade of experience to the firm. Meanwhile, Wilson, having dedicated nearly three decades to the legal sector, including an overseas stint in Australia with a prestigious international law firm, strengthens the team’s foundation.
James Burgess said: “As a firm and as a team we pride ourselves on providing excellent support to all of our clients. We are known for our friendly and down-to-earth approach combined with strong and innovative solutions that get results. We are incredibly proud of our Commercial Property Team and the work that we undertake for our clients both locally and nationally and have ambitious plans for further growth in the coming years.”
