Eaton Smith adds John Cotterill to corporate and commercial team

Huddersfield law firm Eaton Smith has appointed a new lawyer to its corporate and commercial team.

John Cotterill (pictured) joins the team as a solicitor. He will primarily work on commercial matters, including for the firm’s video games and esports clients.

Cotterill is a graduate of the University of Lincoln and BPP in Leeds. He trained at a firm in Doncaster where his most recent activities included not only non-contentious commercial contract work but also civil litigation.

At Eaton Smith, Cotterill will work most closely with partner Chris Taylor, who is the firm’s head of commercial and video games services.

Cotterill has a keen interest in video games and esports, which will complement the firm’s existing expertise in this part of the entertainment industry.

Commenting on his appointment, Cotterill said: “I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to join the corporate and commercial team at Eaton Smith.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Chris and building upon and expanding the services that the firm currently has to offer.

“Most of all, I am looking forward to combing my passion for video games and esports with my professional skills as a solicitor.”

Taylor said: “We are very pleased to welcome John to Eaton Smith. Our corporate and commercial team has been very successful over the recent years and having John join us will strengthen our commercial services in particular.

“We have a wide variety of clients and work in this area of law and we are looking forward to being able to expand that work further through John’s activities.

“John’s interest in video games will complement our existing services that we carry out for not only our game developer and publisher clients but also other service providers that we act for in the video games sector.”
