Chadwick Lawrence announced as official legal partner for The HD One development

Chadwick Lawrence has been announced as the official legal partner for The HD One development.

HD One is an upcoming leisure development set to be located on the riverside surrounding the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield. It includes over 250,000 square feet of cutting-edge leisure, sport, dining, retail and entertainment space plus a new 4-star hotel and outdoor ski slope.

Chadwick Lawrence will be the lead firm on the project, helping to oversee the progression of the development and making sure that all legal requirements are in place prior to opening. The firm will also assist with ongoing day-to-day legal advice and legal support across all aspects of the project.

The partnership comes about following a long-standing relationship between the law firm and Kirklees Stadium Development (KSDL), the company which operates The John Smith’s Stadium. Chadwick Lawrence has been an advisor to KSDL for several years, and has an in-depth knowledge of the legal issues which affect the site and the commercial relationship which KSDL enjoys with its high profile tenants, including Huddersfield Town AFC and Huddersfield Giants.

The firm also recently sponsored the famous Cowshed section of the Stadium.

The project will be overseen by Steven Bonfield, partner of the company and commercial department of Chadwick Lawrence. Bonfield will be responsible for managing the firm’s team of corporate and property specialists and reporting to the directors, as well as being directly involved in the negotiation of the commercial and corporate governance aspects of the various joint venture companies which will be involved in the project.

“This is a huge project which recognises the high level of expertise that Chadwick Lawrence has as a firm,” said Neil Wilson, managing partner at the firm.

“Our team has the professional ability and strength to deliver such a prestigious programme of work on a development which is set to truly bring a positive and exciting change to Huddersfield and the local community.”

Bonfield added that this was a fantastic opportunity for Chadwick Lawrence to show what it can do on the big stage.

“We are extremely proud of our involvement in Huddersfield and the local community, and applaud the directors of KSDL for having the faith and commitment to choose local professional partners to help complete this project,” he said.

Gareth Davies, the managing director of KSDL said that although HD One was progressing well, there was still a lot of detailed work to do before construction could start.

“Much of this work is of a legal nature and both the board of KSDL and our development partners are pleased to be working ever more closely with Chadwick Lawrence,” he said.

“Their knowledge of our site and overall expertise are second to none.”
