MKM Building Supplies appoints Gordons to support investment drive

MKM Building Supplies has hired law firm Gordons to support the builders’ merchant’s continued investment drive to further expand and enhance its operations throughout the UK.

Gordons is providing MKM with a variety of legal services, most recently advising the company on its acquisition of the business and assets of a builders’ merchant site in New Milton, south west Hampshire.

Previously owned and operated by New Milton Sand & Ballast (NMSB), the deal takes MKM’s branch network to 149, including HVAC specialist distributor Oceanair.

A multi-disciplinary team drawn from the firm’s corporate, commercial property and employment specialisms advised MKM on the deal.

For the year ended 30 September 2025, MKM increased revenues 12 per cent to £1.1bn and grew its market share to 14.8 per cent.

MKM CEO Kate Tinsley commented: “We hired Gordons because we like their commercial and proactive approach.

“Gordons are straightforward, commercial and easy to work with, which fits well with how we like to do business. As we continue to grow, they’re a trusted partner who can support us every step of the way.”

In 2026, MKM has so far opened a further eight new branches ranging from Arbroath in north east Scotland, to Swindon in Wiltshire.

Gordons senior partner Paul Ayre said: “MKM is a business that knows what it wants to achieve and values practical advice and long-term relationships. We’re pleased to be working alongside the team and supporting their continued growth.

“They are clear in what they require from us. That suits our client-centred approach. It makes for a good partnership.”

Employing 184 people, Gordons has its head office in Leeds. The firm’s other clients include retailers AO, Iceland Foods and Morrisons, as well as drinks company Molson Coors and parcel delivery business Evri.
