Yorkshire lawyer achieves specialist accreditation to represent vulnerable clients in the Court of Protection

A Yorkshire solicitor has achieved the highest accreditation for lawyers handling Health and Welfare cases within the Court of Protection.

Jill McCurdy, Solicitor Partner at Ramsdens, has been accredited under the Law Society’s Mental Capacity Accreditation Scheme as an Accredited Legal Representative (ALR) – the first at the firm to receive the recognition.

With this specialist accreditation, Jill can now be appointed directly by the courts to represent protected parties and vulnerable clients, reflecting her expertise in this complex and sensitive area of law.

Jill acts in a wide range of Court of Protection Health and Welfare matters, supporting individuals and families where a person lacks mental capacity to make decisions about key aspects of their lives – including residence, care arrangements and contact with others. Her role includes representing the protected party via the Official Solicitor, acting on behalf of family members, and now, as an ALR, taking direct instruction from the Court.

Jill is also a longstanding member of the Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation Scheme and has built her career in Child Care Law alongside her Court of Protection practice. She is known for her experience in working with children, vulnerable individuals, and professional clients, regularly handling complex and sensitive matters.

Jill commented, “Gaining this accreditation is truly a fantastic achievement, not only for myself, but for Ramsdens as well. Now we can go even further for the vulnerable clients, children and families we represent. We want families in Yorkshire to receive the very best service in this specialist area, and will continue to invest in our knowledge base, personnel and experience to achieve this.”

As Ramsdens continues to grow and expand its services, the firm remains committed to delivering the highest level of client care, particularly for those who need it most.
