Tyr Law offers full employment law service following appointment

Leeds-based commercial law firm Tyr Law has recruited employment partner Matthew Yates.

Yates joins Tyr Law from Knights. He previously held roles at Excello Law and Brabners.

He qualified in 1994 and was a partner at DWF for more than 10 years, leading the transport sector group with responsibility for teams in Leeds, the northeast and Manchester.

He specialises in all aspects of employment law and is an experienced Employment Tribunal advocate. He advises on a wide range of issues, in various jurisdictions, including TUPE and collective consultation, restrictive covenants, senior executive terminations, trade union matters and discrimination.

Yates also has a particular interest in the transport and logistics sectors and is also a founding director of the road safety programme, Driver First Assist, a not-for-profit organisation.

Tyr Law will now offer a full employment law service, following a significant period of growth for the boutique firm.

Dean Jowett, managing partner at Tyr Law, said: “Matthew is an extremely experienced employment lawyer and another fantastic addition to the team.”

“He will allow us to offer a broader range of services to our clients and, as an individual, he fits perfectly with the firm’s ethos of putting together a team of the highest quality lawyers across a range of specialisms. Matt’s recruitment also demonstrates the firm’s intention to recruit senior and high calibre partners, even in the current challenging times.”

Yates added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Tyr Law at this crucial time for business and employers and I’m looking forward to playing a part in the firm’s growth and development.”

Tyr Law recently strengthened its commercial property team with the appointment of senior associate Marcus Watson.

The firm, which was launched on 1 May 2019 by partners Alistair Kennedy, Dean Jowett and Matthew Fidler, moved into new office space at 36 Park Row last year.
