Shulmans has teamed up with the University of Law in Leeds to launch the UK’s first national sports law negotiation competition.
Available to 16 universities across the UK, the competition will host teams of two students from elite legal schools around the country. It will take place on Saturday 16 April at the University of Law, Leeds.
The teams will compete in mock negotiation scenarios relating to issues that currently affect the sports industry, from negotiating the commercial terms of a sporting event to the resolution of a dispute amongst a professional athlete and his sponsors or employer.
All the negotiations will take place in front of a judging panel of 24 industry experts, including representatives from Shulmans, St. Philips Chambers, ASDA, The Sports Consultancy, Synergy Sports Management, Sport Works, Disability Sport Yorkshire and West Riding FA. They will be joined by Mike Riley, the renowned international FIFA referee.
The winners will be given a work placement at Shulmans LLP, as well as two tickets to Sport Resolutions’ annual conference on ‘Integrity and good governance’.
Event organiser, Ryan Adams of Shulmans, said: “We are delighted to welcome students from some of the best universities in the UK to the University of Law, Leeds, for this event. Our vision is to make it an annual competition and thanks to an unprecedented level of interest in this inaugural event, we’re confident that in years to come it will be a highlight of the law student calendar, especially those interested in Sports Law.”
