Remote-first firm Harper James reports impressive 25% increase in revenue in 2024.
Full-service firm Harper James has reported an impressive 25% revenue increase, reaching £12.2 million in its latest financial year, as it celebrates a decade of supporting growth-oriented businesses.
The firm’s average annual growth of 33% over the past three years, along with a compound annual growth rate of 400% since its inception, positions Harper James firmly on track to achieve its ambitious £27 million revenue target by 2028.
Founded in 2014 by CEO Toby Harper, the firm has built its success on a unique model of senior remote-working lawyers and subscription-based legal services. While remote-first, it has regional offices in Sheffield and Cardiff, Cambridge, Manchester, London, Oxford, and Southampton. It has now supported over 5,000 clients, with more than 1,000 subscribing to its flagship Enable plan, which provides start-ups and smaller businesses with discounted legal services.
Strategic developments and expanded capabilities
This year saw several strategic developments, including a 25% increase in headcount, bringing the team to over 140 professionals. Harper James expanded its capabilities in key legal areas such as corporate, commercial, intellectual property, and employee share schemes. The firm also broadened its geographical reach with a new office in Cardiff.
Management board strengthens strategic direction
The creation of a new management board has further strengthened the firm’s leadership team. Key appointments include chief technology officer Craig Mellon, chief legal officer Adam Kudryl, and chief marketing and client experience officer Helle Asquith, among others.
Technological milestones and industry recognition
The firm also celebrated a significant technological milestone this year with the launch of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Aston University, funded by Innovate UK. This initiative is focused on developing an AI-enabled Intelligent Legal Service Platform to streamline processes, enhance client experiences, and improve operational efficiencies.
Harper James’ efforts have been widely recognised, with the firm being shortlisted for the Growing Business Awards and earning a place in the UK Fast Growth 50 this year. The firm was also awarded WM People Top Employer Award in 2024 for Best SME.
In line with its mission to champion entrepreneurship, the firm sponsored Foundervine’s 2024 Founderfest Event and Future Awards, which celebrate innovative entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds.
