Real estate growth at Blacks Solicitors

Leeds based legal firm Blacks Solicitors have consolidated their 28-strong real estate team. This move comes with a series of expansions, marked by new hires and specialisation efforts. The firm aims to solidify their position in the competitive legal real estate landscape.

Blacks Solicitors have officially rebranded their commercial property team to real estate, reflecting the team’s growing expertise and capabilities in this field. Over the past four years, the commercial property division has witnessed a 17% increase in turnover, marking its place as a competitive player in real estate law.

As of September 2023, the real estate team is on track to close transactions valued at over £500 million and a projected turnover that is set to exceed £2 million. The team also plays an advisory role for high-profile clients such as the Bank of India, Vida Healthcare, and Harrogate Spring Water, as well as a recent sale to Danone.

The real estate team now offers tailored legal support to developers, investors, landlords and occupiers throughout the UK. They have expertise in energy, development, holiday and home park sectors, banking and property finance, telecoms, property litigation, planning and enfranchisement.

Matthew Hutchinson, a partner in the real estate team, stated, “With a growing focus on energy by the government and the property industry, we’ve witnessed an uptick in demand for our services, particularly for projects related to utility-scale generation, storage transactions, and meter developments.”

Hutchinson added, “As UK businesses grapple with a myriad of energy challenges, we look forward to expanding our specialist services to continue supporting property professionals in building a sustainable energy future during a time of mounting energy uncertainty.”

The real estate team has also expanded through 13 notable appointments over the past three years, including Andrew Pedley as a partner and Richard Morton, the head of banking law.

Nick Dyson, head of real estate at Blacks Solicitors, stated, “I’m extremely proud of the growth that our team has seen over the past few years. It’s testament to the hard work of everyone involved, particularly when market conditions remain tough. As one of Yorkshire’s leading law firms with a national presence, we have significant ambitions when it comes to our experienced team delivering an exceptional service to a growing number of sophisticated developers and investors across the UK.”
