Law firm Switalskis has promoted senior associate solicitor Sam McFadyen to lead its specialist brain injury team within its serious injury department. Sam’s promotion is one of several changes designed to further strengthen the team’s specialist expertise and enhance support for clients and their families.
Sam, who has more than 25 years’ experience in serious injury litigation, will oversee a team of six brain injury specialists supporting clients and families affected by life-changing injuries. A Legal 500 Recommended Lawyer and APIL-accredited senior litigator, Sam has built a reputation for representing people with complex brain injuries and helping families secure the rehabilitation, support and financial security they need following devastating injuries.
In his new role, Sam will lead the continued development of the brain injury team, oversee complex case strategy and strengthen relationships with rehabilitation providers, healthcare professionals and support organisations across the UK.
His promotion forms part of an enhanced leadership structure within Switalskis’ serious injury department. The department is led by managing director of serious and brain injury Mark Hollinghurst, supported by director and serious injury manager Katrina Elsey, who was recently promoted to director.
The leadership team is further strengthened by long-standing Switalskis serious injury lawyer and solicitor advocate John McQuater being appointed as technical director, recognising his specialist expertise in complex and high-value litigation.
John will continue to provide strategic oversight on the most complex cases, support case development across the team, and maintain his court advocacy work in higher court proceedings where required. An Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL)-accredited practitioner, he is widely recognised within the profession and regularly chairs and speaks at industry events, including the APIL Annual Conference.
The changes reflect the continued growth of Switalskis’ serious injury practice and its focus on developing specialist expertise across brain injury and other complex catastrophic injury claims. As well as their commitment to delivering outstanding legal representation alongside rehabilitation-focused support.
Sam McFadyen says: “This is an exciting opportunity and I’m incredibly proud to lead a team with such depth of expertise and commitment. Our focus is always on doing what is right for clients and their families at what is often the most challenging time in their lives.
“Brain injury cases require a truly holistic approach. Early rehabilitation, coordinated support, and securing the right financial arrangements can make a huge difference to recovery, independence and family life. I aim to build on our strong foundations and ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards of care and expertise while further establishing Switalskis as a leading firm for serious brain injury work nationally.”
Mark Hollinghurst, managing director of serious and brain injury at Switalskis, says: “Our serious injury team has grown significantly in recent years, in size, expertise and in the complexity of the work we handle. Sam’s well-earned promotion and the new structure reflect that momentum and ensures we continue to evolve as a modern, specialist team that is recognised nationally for the quality of its work. This investment reflects our commitment to providing an exceptional, specialist service to clients who have unfortunately suffered life-changing injuries and deliver them the best outcomes.”
