Alistair MacDonald QC

Alistair MacDonald QC is Chairman of the Bar Council of England and Wales for 2015. Alistair was called to the Bar in 1983 and took silk in 2000. Practising from Leeds, he is co-Head of Chambers at New Park Chambers.

After being Director of Continuing Education on the North-Eastern Circuit, he became Circuit Leader in 2012. He has sat as a Recorder in crime and civil since 1995 and been a Master of the Bench at Gray’s Inn since 2007.

He specialises in murder and serious drugs offences including industrial scale importations and he has particular interest in criminal offences involving complex medical or scientific issues. His past work has also included personal injury and administrative law.

Alistair has been described by legal directories as a “brilliant advocate” and is regularly involved with advocacy training throughout the UK. In addition, Alistair teaches advocacy skills on the Advanced International Advocacy Course at Keble College, Oxford.
